True Divine Community Development Inc., (TDCD)

True Divine Community Development Inc., (TDCD) was founded on May 8, 2001 with the sole mission of providing services, resources and affordable housing within the local community.

G.A.M. E. Time S.T.E.A.M.

In March 2003 TDCD’s youth leadership mentoring program, G.A.M.E. Time held its first week-end monthly session. In September 2016 G.A.M.E. Time became a S.T.E.A.M. program with the sole purpose to Guide, Acknowledge, Mentor, and Equip youth to become productive citizens and future leaders through a variety of creative and innovative instructional activities and team-building events that sparks their interest in agriculture and the S.T.E.A.M. fields (science, technology, engineering and math). In September 2019 G.A.M.E. Time included art in its curriculum and changed its name to G.A.M.E. Time S.T.E.A.M. The target population is youth between the ages of 6 – 18 years old in the Montgomery County area. Sessions are held at True Divine Baptist Church and convene once a month, every 3rd Saturday, from 8:45 a.m.—1:00 p.m., September through May. Registration is required to join. Registration starts August 1— October 31.

True Divine Community Senior Center

On June 3, 2013, in partnership with the Central Alabama Aging Consortium, TDCD’s True Divine Community Senior Center opened its doors to seniors ages 60+ years old, four days a week offering over 3,000 hot nutritious meals (quarterly), social, mental, physical activities, movie day, community based senior outings, devotions and more. The senior center is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Registration is ongoing.

Project H.E.L.P.

In collaboration with community organizations and private, state and federal agencies, provide services, resources, and workshops/seminars which promote Healing, Empowerment/education, Leadership, and Prosperity within the local community.  In January 2003 Project H.E.L.P. hosted its first workshop which addressed the issue of financial management.  Current community workshops address family fitness, health and wellness.

Feeding Hands Backpack Program

Established April 2012.  The program provides a weekly weekend supply of non-perishable nutritious food for over 430 local school children, grades k-12, who have been identified by school officials as having food insecurity.

TDCD Mobile Food Pantry

The Montgomery Area Food Bank (MAFB) delivers fresh produce, dairy products, and other food and grocery items directly to a distribution site at True Divine to distribute to those in the community who have need for food. When the MAFB truck arrives at the TDCD site, volunteers place the food in bags for distribution to waiting cars of people. Qualification to receive food is based on income.

Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)

(June 2019) TDCD in partnership with the Montgomery Area Food Bank (MAFB) and the USDA agency provides supplementary food packages to low income seniors who are 60+years young.  Clients are required to register. Program currently serves over 100 seniors.

Seeds of Plenty Community Garden

Provide fresh vegetables and fruits to those who are hungry in our community.  The garden also serves as an intergenerational teaching/education tool for those who live in the local community.

 

 

Opportunities to Serve/Volunteer: Feeding Hands Backpack

  • Every Tuesday (August – May) 8:00 a.m. Help transport and unload food from local food bank
  • Every Tuesday (August – May) 9:00 a.m. Stock and rotate food in pantry
  • Every Thursday (September – May) 4:30 p.m. Setup room for packer to pack non-perishable food backpack program
  • Every Friday (September – May) – deliver bags of food to schools
  • January thru December – hygiene and toy/gift drive
  • December – Wrap Party and toy/gift distribution
  • Do a “Pickup” food drive for the backpack program (collecting non-perishable food)
  • Become a sponsor of or donate to the Feeding Hands Backpack Program. Note:  Checks should be made out to True Divine Community Development Inc.  All donations are tax exempted.
  • Make a purchase on AmazonSmile and select True Divine Community Development as your charity (.5% of your purchase price will be donated to the Feeding Hands Backpack Program).

True Divine Community Development Senior Center

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday – Serve or deliver meals to seniors, wash dishes, clean kitchen, assist with games and activities in senior center (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.)

    • Crackers (sleeve of crackers – Ritz or Saltines)
    • Peanut butter (small jar)
    • Grits (individual packets)
    • Oatmeal (individual packets)
    • Beans and Franks (pop-top can)
    • Beef stew or ravioli  (pop-top can)
    • Macaroni and cheese
    • Beef and chicken soups
    • Cereal (1 ounce bowl or box)
    • Fruit cups (peaches, applesauce, etc.)
    • Vegetable cups (corn, green beans, etc.)
    • Raisins (snack size boxes)
    • Pudding cups
    • Juice boxes/plastic bottles (apple, orange, or other 100% juice)

    • Sunflower or pumpkin seeds (snack size)
